Sun Salutations Yoga Classes

Sun salutations, as derived from the teachings of sri k. patabi jois and the yoga sutras, are taken directly from the ashtanga yoga method. Sun salutation a, a sequence of 11 postures, and sun salutation b, 18 postures, are the foundation for vinyasa yoga and Detroit yoga's style of vinyasa yoga. These postures are from where all the vinyasa yoga postures are derived, and the flow of postures, is the foundation for all the movements one encounters in a vinyasa class. The sun salutations also introduces the concept of linking breath with movement, a principal that personifies the mind body connection and the mental discipline and awareness that are paramount to vinyasa yoga's ideology and purpose. A basic vinyasa class begins with sun salutations, as they are the ideal warm up for both body and mind and are traditionally used as such in the ashtanga yoga method.
